SCRIPTURE — A SACRED SPACE

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 July 2026

Scripture - A Sacred Space ("the app") is developed and operated by Micheal Vijay J, an individual developer based in Bengaluru, India ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language, because you should be able to understand it without a lawyer.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in, we receive your name, email address and (for Google Sign-In) your Google profile picture, through Firebase Authentication. If you sign up with email and password, the password is handled by Firebase Authentication and is never visible to us.

Profile details you add. Your display name and an optional avatar image. Avatar images are stored as small encoded images inside our database.

Content you create. Reflections, prayer requests, events, memorial (In Memoriam) posts, group messages, live Mass notices, and reactions (such as "Amen" or "Praying"). This content is stored together with your user ID and display name.

Family Connect data. If you choose to link accounts with a family member or elder, we store the link between the two accounts, the invite code used to create it, and any care reminders (title, schedule, on/off state) created between the two linked accounts.

Data that stays on your device only. The Bible text, your reading position, bookmarks and Reading Plan progress are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.

2. Information we do NOT collect

The "Listen" feature uses your device's built-in text-to-speech. The audio is generated on your phone; nothing you listen to is recorded or sent to our servers.

3. Where your data is stored

Account and community data is stored on Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Authentication), on Google Cloud servers located in India (region asia-south1). Google acts as our data processor; its safeguards are described in Google's own privacy documentation. The Bible text (Douay-Rheims translation, a public-domain work) is downloaded once from a public repository when you first open the app.

4. Who can see your content

5. How we use information

We use your information only to run the app: signing you in, showing your posts to the community, delivering reminders between linked family accounts, and keeping the service safe (for example, removing content that breaks our Terms & Conditions). We do not use your data for profiling or targeted advertising.

6. Deleting your content and your account

7. Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Security

We protect data using Firebase Authentication and Firestore security rules that restrict every read and write to the people entitled to it. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we design the app so that it collects the minimum it needs.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy — for example, when new features are added — we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will be highlighted inside the app.
